Comment:

 We do not require these libraries.  I suspect you have installed pidgin-
 dev from Debian or Ubuntu without running 'apt-get build-dep pidgin'
 first.  Is this correct?

 Ordinarily this should not be a problem, but we have seen Debian users
 have issues because the -dev packages ship .la files, which are not
 required to complete the build.  Essentially, this is not a Guifications
 problem but a packaging problem with the distribution.
