 so that's what it was! thanks :) I need to look into this, but I knew
 there was some issue with it. At first I thought it was that auto-reply
 didn't read the blank message as a blank unless there was a space (that's
 not a bad workaround by the way... put a ' ' as the auto-reply to make it
 count as nothing and send status message instead).
