Comment:

 A plugin preference for 'Do not autoreply when invisible.' doesn't sound
 too bad.

 For offline messages, protocol-plugins should either mark them as
 appropriate (set the '_DELAYED' flag, iirc), if it can tell the
 difference. The plugin can then look at that flag and not auto-reply.
 Deciding whether a message is an offline message in the plugin sounds like
 a bad idea.
