 How does this fix the installation of the icons?

 If you look at configure.ac, theres magic to make
 (FINCH|PURPLE|PIDGIN)_DATA_DIRECTORY point to the one found via pkg-
 config, or if a prefix is specified to use that.  Using DESTDIR, breaks
 all of that.  Ie, prefix should only be used for those that '''WANT''' or
 ''NEED'' it in another prefix, otherwise, if it doesn't end up in the
 purple paths, everything gets all fubar'd.
